Basic transfer steps
- Unlock the domain at the current registrar.
- Get the authorization code, also called EPP code.
- Start transfer at the new registrar.
- Approve confirmation emails if required.
- Wait for completion.
Why transfers get delayed
- Domain is less than 60 days old or recently transferred.
- Transfer lock is still enabled.
- Authorization code is wrong or expired.
- Registrant email is inaccessible.
- Domain has expired or is in redemption status.
Before transferring: Confirm whether DNS will remain active during the transfer. A transfer should not break your website or email if DNS is handled correctly.
